The First have given the size. Some of them have suffered, such as I raised, the Majorca, the Villarreal or the Pomegranate, but only two have said goodbye to the Cup. The Alavés fell loudly before the Real Jaén last December and the Badalona Getafe was imposed taking advantage of the early expulsion of David Timor. The rest, in one way or another, have managed to solve the ballot and reach the round that once would have been their first test in the competition. Thus, the difference with respect to previous years is minimal. Last season the 20 teams of First, 6 of Second and 6 of Second Division B played on the round of 16. This year, the same representatives of LaLiga SmartBank will play a place in the round of 16, but there will be two less than LaLiga Santander, fruit of the disappointment of Alavés and Getafe. Their places are occupied by two clubs of the bronze category. In short, despite the fact that the new format gives more facilities to the little ones, the fact that have to overcome two qualifiers makes the sixteenths are not so different from those of the previous model. Most, yes, agree; while others promote the introduction of a pure draw. Thus, a fully open Cup would be generated, although images such as Unionists celebrating the arrival of a historic event would be seen less frequently … The new Copa del Rey was born as an attractive format, pleasant for the most modest and that promised emotion and emphasized the message that nothing can be taken for granted in football. Said and done, the first two rounds have been loaded with matched matches, of surprises, of great photographs in small fields. The KO tournament has changed and will not return to the old model. However, when the sixteenths arrived, What differences are seen with years ago? Now, modest clubs receive more television revenue, since there are two more rounds issued with rights in between. Beyond the economic level, in the sports field, the results have brought a very similar round to what was previously the Copa del Rey. Taking as a reference last season, the First Division entered the round of 16. That is, until that moment, those of the Super Cup were exempt as this campaign has been.Nevertheless, Luis Rubiales propelled a change that forced 16 LaLiga Santander teams to play two more qualifiers and that crossed those of LaLiga SmartBank in front of more modest people with little chance of seeing each other’s faces. An idea that balanced the forces, especially to erase the double game, which made frequent surprises impossible. In this way, the failure of Second Division clubs, which have fallen en masse until only six representatives remain.
