‘Music at Noon’ and Christmas Eve Services at Pasadena Presbyterian Church This Week

first_img Community News Dr. Mark Smutny (inset)Pasadena Presbyterian Church will be featuring California-based mezzo-soprano Argenta Walther during Music at Noon this Wednesday, December 23, 2015, 12:10 to 12:40 p.m. Music at Noon is 30 minutes of sublime music presented weekly in free concerts by performers from across Los Angeles and around the world. Walther is a vocalist with a wide repertoire spanning from the medieval period to the avant-garde. With a particular affinity for contemporary music, she has enjoyed singing the works of Harry Partch, Marc Sabat, and Wolfgang von Schweinitz under the auspices of MicroFest, Los Angeles’ festival of microtonal music. Walther will be accompanied by Traci Esslinger on the piano. An active performer of both solo and chamber music, Esslinger is a Los Angeles native committed to the exploration of contemporary as well as traditional repertoire. On Thursday, December 24, the Church will be offering two Christmas services – a Christmas Eve Family Service at 4 p.m., and a Candlelight Communion Service at 9 p.m. The children of PPC’s Carol Choir and Rainbow Choir will be performing in “Sing With us the Christmas Story,” a special pageant during the Family Service. There will also be plenty of audience carol singing. At 9 p.m., Dr. Mark Smutny, Senior Pastor, will preach at the Candlelight Communion Service. Music will be provided by the Kirk Choir, singing “Shepherd’s Pipe Carol,” and “The Infant King,”and the Van Etten Handbell Choir playing “Angel Tidings.” Judith Siirila will be singing Adolphe Adam’s “O Holy Night.” The service will also feature plenty of congregational carol singing. Pasadena Presbyterian Church is at 585 E Colorado Blvd., corner of Madison Ave., in downtown Pasadena.
