Lehman exits BG school board

first_imgKaren Lehman, in her 12th year on the Battle Ground School District board, announced her immediate resignation Saturday. At the board’s regularly scheduled meeting, she cited out-of-town work commitments, coupled with employment uncertainty.Lehman said she had expected to finish her third full term this year and not seek re-election, but circumstances hastened her departure.“Unfortunately, at times I have had to travel for work and miss meetings. … I do not know what I will be doing or where I may be working after June 1,” she told the board, quoted in a district news release. She said she felt obliged to step down now so as to not cause “undue hardship” for the district, fellow board members, students and herself, the release said.Under district policy and state law, the remaining four board members will appoint a replacement from among applicants “after suitable public notice.” The appointee will serve until Lehman’s term ends late this year, and may run for a full, four-year term. The district plans to issue more details soon for anybody who wishes to apply for the position, the press release said.last_img read more
