Colin Lomax to be 130th president of CBA

first_imgColin Lomax has been appointed president elect of the Craft Bakers Association (CBA), and will be installed as president next June.Lomax has worked in the baking industry since leaving school at the age of 15 and learning the trade at Greenhalgh’s and then Hampsons bakery in the Bolton area.He is a past chairman of the British Society of Baking (BSB) and president of the Alliance of Bakery Students and Trainees (ABST). Lomax also judges at many industry events including British Baker’s Baking Industry Awards and the Britain’s Best Loaf competition.Lomax has held various management positions at Rank Hovis and, in his role as a Hovis demonstrator, visited bakeries of all types and size across the UK and elsewhere. He has also maintained Hovis competitions and launched a Hovis scholarship.Lomax described the CBA as a “driving force in the Industry”, adding he was honoured to be asked to be president elect. He will take up the role of president at the CBA conference next year.He told British Baker: “I’m really honoured to be asked to take up the position of CBA president in 2018.  I am passionate about the trade and really look forward to supporting the CBA. The organisation has been a driving force in the craft sector for many years.“I am proud to be a baker having worked for Greenhalgh’s then Hampsons in Bolton, and then joined Rank Hovis the miller in 1976. PICTURE SPECIAL – EXCITEMENT BUILDING AHEAD OF DEELE COLLEGE 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

first_imgWith only a matter of weeks now to go, excitement is building in the greater Raphoe area as the 50th celebrations draw closer at Deele College and tickets for the school show and celebration dinner dance have finally gone on sale.The school, formerly Raphoe Technical/Vocational School has planned a host of events to mark the 50th anniversary on the weekend of March 13 and March 14, ending with an amazing 50th celebration dance featuring the Beefsteak Dancers.Principal Joe Boyle said, “Demand for the tickets for the dance is already huge and as a result our initial plans to host the dance in the school gymnasium had to be shelved, but we’re delighted to have secured the Mount Errigal Hotel as a venue and with the Beefsteak Dancers lined up to provide the music we’re certain the dinner dance be a fantastic night.
