Chinese company Lenovo on Tuesday launched its new lower mid-range 4G-capable smartphone aka the Vibe K5 Plus in India at a price of Rs 8,499. The phone will be exclusively available through open sales on Flipkart from March 23.The Vibe K5 Plus was first unveiled (along with another phone, the Vibe K5) at the recently concluded MWC 2016 event in Barcelona, Spain. In terms of specifications, the Vibe K5 Plus comes with a 5-inch FullHD IPS display with a 1080×1920 pixels resolution which roughly translates to 441ppi pixel density. The phone is powered by a 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory which is further expandable by up to 32GB via microSD card slot. The dualSIM phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop-based Vibe UI and supports 4G LTE connectivity and Dolby audio technology. It sports a 13-megapixel camera on the rear with autofocus and single LED flash. There’s also a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The Vibe K5 Plus is backed by a 2,750mAh battery which is user-replaceable.The phone sports a premium metal build and will compete with the recently launched Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and LeEco’s Le 1S. The aforementioned phones come with full-metal unibody as well but also include rear-mounted fingerprint scanners. That’s not all; both the phones are also better equipped in hardware with potent processors and greater RAM. They also have bigger batteries in comparison.Lenovo’s new phone is being pitched by the company as a multimedia device primarily. Technologies like Dolby audio and TheatreMax (recently seen in the Vibe K4 Note) have been put in to accentuate this aspect.advertisementIt would be interesting to see how the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus fares against the Redmi Note 3 and the Le 1S. At the same time, Motorola Moto G Turbo’ s almost stock Android feel cannot be taken for granted. It would be a tough road ahead for the Vibe K5 Note but Lenovo phones have done well in India. Lenovo says one of the biggest differentiators of the Vibe K5 Plus is that it supports 4G on both SIMs and a microSD card slot separately. The Vibe K5 Plus will be available in the colours Gold, Grey and Silver.Although the Vibe K5 Plus lacks a compelling wow feature in comparison to rival phones in and around this price point, it seems to be a well-built phone (at least in first impressions) especially for the price that it commands.
