Volleyball Heads To Central Illinois For A Pair Of MVC Matches

first_img Live Stats – at ISU ESPN3 – at ISU Story Links DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University volleyball team gets back to conference play with a pair of road games this weekend, starting at Illinois State Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.The Bulldogs then make the trip to Peoria, Ill. for a 7 p.m. match against Bradley Saturday, Nov. 3. Friday’s match will be broadcast on ESPN3.Drake (17-10, 5-7 MVC) went 1-2 this past weekend after 3-0 sweeps at the hands of MVC rivals Loyola and Valparaiso. Each of the three sets against Loyola were won by just two points, but Drake couldn’t quite pull ahead down the stretch despite timely runs in all three.The Bulldogs got some momentum back in Monday’s 3-0 sweep over Chicago State. Chicago State was held to -.038 hitting for the entire match, and Drake held the Cougars to single-digit points in the first two sets.Illinois State (20-5, 12-1 MVC) has won eight-straight coming into their match against Drake to sit in second place in the MVC standings. The Redbirds’ Marissa Stockman leads the MVC in hitting percentage with .355. Defensively Illinois State is led by Courtney Pence who leads the MVC in digs per set with 5.87. Pence is the second all-time in the Valley for digs with 2,594, as well as the NCAA active leader in digs.Bradley (19-6, 9-4 MVC) is currently third in the MVC standings, but has also faltered in the past few matches. They lost their last match, a 3-1 road match at Indiana State, as well as a narrow 3-2 win over Evansville the previous match.
